Excise on heating fuels (natural gas, heating oil, coal) and heating LPG: rates from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027
Article 71 (I, 3°, III and V) of the 2026 Finance Act sets the standard excise rate on heating fuels, for 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027, at €10.73 per megawatt-hour for all categories (natural gas, heating oils, coal, kerosene) except heating LPG, and at €0.31/MWh for heating LPG, against €10.54/MWh and €0.30/MWh before. These rates are indexed on core inflation and revised every 1 February. The trajectory set by Article 20 of the 2025 Finance Act is extended to heating LPG, with a change of between €3 and €6 per megawatt-hour.

Households and businesses heating with natural gas, heating oil or coal pay since 1 August 2026 an excise of €10.73/MWh (excluding the surcharge for non-interconnected zones), €0.19/MWh more than before; heating LPG goes from €0.30 to €0.31/MWh. A €4.40/MWh gas excise increase voted by the Senate was not kept.
