EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement: phased removal of customs duties
By Decision (EU) 2018/1907 of 20 December 2018, the Council approved on behalf of the Union the Economic Partnership Agreement between the European Union and Japan. The agreement, in force since 1 February 2019, provides for the immediate or gradual removal of most customs duties on trade between the two parties, as well as commitments on non-tariff barriers, services and geographical indications.

Importers and exporters benefit from reduced or abolished customs duties on goods originating in the other party, according to the agreement's tariff schedules. As customs duties are an EU own resource, the reduction mainly affects the EU budget.
