Wallis and Futuna: creation of legal aid in civil and administrative matters
Article 190 of the 2026 Finance Act amends Ordinance No. 92-1147 of 12 October 1992 to introduce in Wallis and Futuna, where legal aid only covered criminal matters, full or partial legal aid in civil and administrative matters: it is available to individuals with insufficient resources and, under conditions, to non-profit legal entities without sufficient resources. It also provides for lawyers' travel expenses to be covered. Decree No. 2026-990 of 23 October 2026 sets out the arrangements (procedure, lawyers' fees based on unit-value coefficients, costs advanced by the State) from 1 November 2026.
