Legal aid: higher income ceilings and unit value set at €26.50
Article 42 of the Finance Act for 2016 amended the Legal Aid Act of 10 July 1991: the reference income ceilings were set at €1,000 for full legal aid and €1,500 for partial aid, revised each year according to prices; the reference unit value used to pay lawyers was set at €26.50 excluding VAT for admissions granted from 1 January 2016. The article also created a fee for lawyers assisting a beneficiary in mediation and increased several revenues earmarked for legal aid.

Measure impact
More low-income litigants become eligible for legal aid, and lawyers acting under it are better paid. Recipients of the RSA and the ASPA no longer need to prove their resources.
