New modernisation aid for newsagents
Article 134 of the 2004 Amending Finance Act creates a modernisation aid for press retailers, funded in 2005 from Article 30 of Chapter 41-11 of the Prime Minister's general services budget. Processing of applications and payment may be delegated to a public or private body chosen after a public tender, which reports annually to Parliament and the Government. According to the government amendment quoted by the Senate, the aid is meant to fund new display fittings at points of sale, at an estimated unit cost of €3,000 to €5,000, with about 2,000 potential beneficiary outlets.
