New social modernisation aid for daily newspapers of political and general information
Article 135 of the 2004 Amending Finance Act creates a social modernisation aid for daily newspapers of political and general information, funded in 2005 from Article 10 of Chapter 41-11 of the Prime Minister's general services budget. A body designated by the sector's professional organisations calculates and pays the aid under an agreement with the State, and reports annually to Parliament and the Government. According to the government amendment quoted by the Senate, the aid supports the sector's professional and social modernisation, which may require early retirements and training: 657 people were concerned in 2005 for the Paris press and nearly 1,200 for the regional daily press.
