State medical aid: removal of the €30 annual fee and of prior approval
Article 41 of the second amending finance act for 2012 removes the annual fee (Article 968 E of the General Tax Code) payable by adult beneficiaries of State medical aid (AME) and the prior approval procedure for certain costly hospital treatments. It also widens the places where AME applications can be lodged. These removals apply from 4 July 2012; the national AME fund is abolished on 31 December 2012.

Measure impact
People eligible for State medical aid no longer pay an annual fee to open their rights. According to the Senate finance committee report, these measures represent additional expenditure of €3.1 million in 2012.
