Lower ecological bonus and tighter scrappage premium from 1 July 2021
Decree No. 2020-1526 of 7 December 2020 schedules a cut in the ecological bonus on 1 July 2021: for electric cars under €45,000, the cap falls from €7,000 to €6,000 (from €5,000 to €4,000 for legal entities); it falls from €3,000 to €2,000 for electric vehicles priced €45,000-60,000 and certain vehicles above €60,000 (electric vans, hydrogen), and from €2,000 to €1,000 for plug-in hybrids. On the same date, the scrappage premium is no longer granted for buying a diesel or Crit'Air 2 vehicle, and eligible new vehicles must emit at most 132 g CO2/km (137 g for used vehicles). The same decree creates, from 9 December 2020, a €1,000 bonus for buying a used electric vehicle.

Measure impact
Buyers of new electric cars and plug-in hybrids receive €1,000 less from 1 July 2021; households scrapping an old vehicle can no longer obtain the scrappage premium for a diesel or Crit'Air 2 car. Vehicles ordered before 30 June 2021 keep the previous scale if invoiced before the deadline (30 September, postponed to 31 December 2021 by Decree No. 2021-977).
