Electricity price shield – 2024 extension
Extension in 2024 of the electricity tariff shield limiting price increases to +10% for households and small businesses.
Measure originators
A positive amount is revenue or savings for public finances; a negative amount is a cost or lost revenue.
Measure impact
Tariff shield expired on 1 February 2025. Electricity now subject to 20% VAT (versus 5.5%). Excise duty on electricity raised to €33.70/MWh (versus €21/MWh in 2024). A 15% cut in the regulated tariff offset by the excise/VAT increase.
