General scheme death grant set at a flat €3,400

The 2015 Social Security Financing Act replaces the calculation of the general scheme death grant, previously a multiple of the deceased's daily earnings, with a flat amount set by decree. Decree 2014-1715 of 30 December 2014 sets it at €3,400 for deaths from 1 January 2015, indexed every year; decree 2015-209 of 24 February 2015 repeals the regulatory provisions of the former calculation.

Measure impact

Dependants of a deceased general scheme insured person receive €3,400 regardless of the deceased's salary. According to the impact assessment, about 25,000 death grants are paid each year by the general scheme; spending would fall from €166m to about €84m.
