Exceptional levy on the 2006 turnover of pharmaceutical wholesalers and laboratories
Article 5 of the 2007 Social Security Financing Act creates an exceptional regulatory levy owed by pharmaceutical wholesalers and by companies marketing medicines that sell wholesale. It is based on pre-tax turnover in 2006 with community, mutual and mining pharmacies on reimbursable medicines, excluding orphan drugs and only for the part of the price below €150 plus the maximum margin. The rate is 0.21% on 2006 turnover and 1.5% on its growth compared with 2005, the second part being offset against the first if negative. The levy is collected on 1 September 2007 and its proceeds are shared among health insurance schemes.
