Creation of an 11-day paternity leave (18 days for multiple births) paid by social security
Article 55 of the 2002 Social Security Financing Act creates a paternity leave of eleven consecutive days, or eighteen days for multiple births, to be taken within a period set by decree after the birth (four months, Decree 2001-1352). Employed fathers receive maternity insurance daily allowances on the same terms as mothers; the leave is open to civil servants, the military, the self-employed and farmers. Article 56 provides for these allowances to be reimbursed by the family branch. The leave applies to children born or adopted from 1 January 2002.
