Capital gains exemption on the first sale of a home other than the main residence when proceeds are reinvested
The 2012 Finance Act exempts the capital gain made on the first sale of a home other than the main residence when the seller has not owned a main residence in the previous four years. The exemption covers the share of the price reinvested within 24 months in buying or building the seller's main residence; it is withdrawn if the conditions are not met.
