TV licence fee: exemption extended to non-taxable people aged 65 and over
Article 31 of the 2002 Finance Act exempts from the licence fee on first-category television sets people aged 65 on 1 January of the year the fee is due who are not liable to income tax for the year before last nor to the wealth tax. According to the Senate, the 2001 Finance Act had opened this exemption to non-taxable people over 70; the age limit is thus lowered to 65. Since 1998, new exemption requests from older people had been restricted to recipients of the supplementary minimum old-age allowance.
