End of State funding of school fees for French upper-secondary pupils abroad
Article 42 of the second amending finance act for 2012 repeals Article 133 of the 2009 Finance Act and Article 141 of the 2011 Finance Act, which provided for the State to pay the school fees of French children in upper-secondary classes at French schools abroad. The Government must report to Parliament on the consequences of the removal and on adjustments to means-tested grants.
Measure originators
A positive amount is revenue or savings for public finances; a negative amount is a cost or lost revenue.
Measure impact
Families of French pupils in the last three years of secondary school in the French education network abroad no longer receive non-means-tested funding; only means-tested grants remain. According to the Senate finance committee report, the saving is estimated at €12.5 million in 2012, part of which is redeployed to grants.
