Funding of the household waste electrical and electronic equipment scheme and display of the eco-fee
Article 87 of the 2005 Amending Finance Act creates Article L. 541-10-2 of the Environment Code. From 1 January 2006, manufacturers, importers and distributors of household electrical and electronic equipment, or retailers selling under their own brand, must provide for or contribute to the collection, removal and treatment of waste from such equipment, whatever its date of placing on the market. An approved coordinating body compensates local authorities for separate collection costs. During a transitional period running until 13 February 2011 (13 February 2013 for some equipment), the unit disposal cost is shown at the foot of the invoice on top of the price before tax and passed on unchanged to the end consumer, without exceeding actual costs.
