Post-parking charge: decriminalisation and decentralisation of paid on-street parking
Since 1 January 2018, under article 63 of the MAPTAM Act of 27 January 2014, failing to pay or underpaying for on-street paid parking is no longer an offence punished by a €17 criminal fine: the user owes a post-parking charge (FPS) whose amount is set by resolution of each municipality or competent group, together with the parking fee scale.

Measure impact
Motorists parking on paid streets in the roughly 800 local authorities concerned: the amount due for non-payment varies from one municipality to another (instead of a single €17 fine), payable within three months, with a surcharge otherwise. Disputes go through a prior administrative appeal and then a specialised parking disputes commission. The revenue funds transport and mobility.
