Higher employer and employee contributions on stock options and free shares
Article 11 of the 2011 Social Security Financing Act raises the two specific social contributions on stock options and free share awards. The employer contribution (Article L. 137-13 of the Social Security Code) rises from 10% to 14%, with the 10% rate kept for share awards worth less than half the annual social security ceiling per employee each year. The employee contribution on gains (Article L. 137-14) rises from 2.5% to 8%, with the 2.5% rate kept for benefits below half that ceiling. These rates were raised again in 2012.
