Contributions on stock options and free shares: employer rate raised to 30%, employee rate to 10%
Article 31 of the second amending finance act for 2012 raises from 14% to 30% the employer contribution on stock options and free share awards (Article L. 137-13 of the Social Security Code), and from 8% to 10% the employee contribution on the corresponding gains (Article L. 137-14). The employer increase applies to options granted and awards made from 11 July 2012.

Measure impact
Companies granting stock options or free shares and their beneficiaries pay higher contributions. According to the Senate finance committee report, the yield is estimated at €75 million in 2012 and €317 million in a full year, for social security.
