Higher consumption duty on cigarettes sold in Corsica
Article 96 of the 2005 Amending Finance Act amends Article 575 E bis of the General Tax Code. The standard rate of consumption duty on cigarettes sold in Corsica rises from 35% to 36.5% of the retail price, and the minimum retail price of cigarettes in Corsica is raised from 68% to 70% of mainland prices. The same article raises from €101,600 to €106,750 the turnover threshold above which Corsican tobacconists pay the licence duty. These increases, first steps towards the 44% rate required by Directive 2003/117/EC from 2008, take effect on 2 January 2006.
