Introduction of the solidarity day

Article 2 of the Act of 30 June 2004 creates Article L. 212-16 of the Labour Code: a solidarity day is introduced to fund support for the autonomy of elderly and disabled people. For employees it takes the form of an extra unpaid working day, up to seven hours, and for employers the 0.3% contribution. Its date is set by collective agreement; failing that, it is Whit Monday. Articles 5 and 6 extend it to agreed working hours and to the three branches of the civil service. The first day falls between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2005 (Art. 19).
