Wealth tax (ISF): bracket update and automatic annual indexation
Article 17 of the 2005 Finance Act rewrites the table in Article 885 U of the General Tax Code: the wealth tax brackets, unchanged since 1997, are raised by 1.7% (2004 inflation excluding tobacco), with the taxable threshold moving to €732,000. It also provides that bracket limits will be updated every year in line with the upper limit of the first income tax bracket, rounded to the nearest ten thousand euros. The article was introduced in the National Assembly by the Government and adopted unchanged by the Senate.
