Waiting day for public employees on sick leave (2012-2013)
The 2012 Finance Act removes pay for the first day of sick leave for civil servants, military personnel and employees whose sickness benefits are not provided by a compulsory social security scheme. Long-term sick leave and absences due to a work accident or certain exceptional causes are excluded.

Measure impact
Affects civil servants and employees of the three branches of the public service and the military: loss of one day's pay per sick leave from 2012. The Government estimated the savings at €122 million. Repealed by the 2014 Finance Act and reinstated in 2018.
