Weight penalty: hybrid allowances redefined, mild hybrids lose their allowance in 2027
Article 58 (I, 7°) of the 2026 Finance Act rewrites the exemptions and allowances of the weight penalty. Electric, hydrogen and low-carbon-footprint vehicles are exempt. Plug-in hybrids (urban electric range above 50 km) get a 200 kg allowance capped at 15% of the mass, full hybrids (electric motors of 30 kW or more) 100 kg. Mild hybrids (under 30 kW electric), which had a 100 kg allowance since 2024, lose it for vehicles registered from 2027.

Measure impact
From 2027, buyers of a mild-hybrid car (electric assistance under 30 kW) pay the weight penalty on the full mass above the threshold, without the 100 kg allowance. Full hybrids keep 100 kg and plug-in hybrids 200 kg (at most 15% of the mass). Electric and hydrogen cars remain exempt.
