PAJE: basic allowance and birth grant aligned with the family supplement
For children born or adopted from 1 April 2018, the income ceiling and rate of the basic allowance of the early childhood benefit (PAJE) are aligned with those of the family supplement. The birth grant ceiling is set by reference to that of the full-rate basic allowance. Amounts and ceilings are unchanged for children born up to 31 March 2018.
Measure originators
A positive amount is revenue or savings for public finances; a negative amount is a cost or lost revenue.
Measure impact
Families with a child born or adopted from 1 April 2018: lower income ceilings and amounts for the basic allowance. Savings estimated at €70m in 2018 for the family branch (€30m on the basic allowance, €40m on the birth grant), set to grow over three years.
