Family quotient benefit cap lowered to €2,000 per half-share
The 2013 Finance Act lowered the cap on the tax reduction provided by the family quotient from €2,336 to €2,000 per half-share. The cap for the share granted for the first child of a single parent rose from €661 to €997, and widowed taxpayers with dependent children whose benefit is capped receive an additional tax reduction of €672.

According to the estimate cited in the Senate general report, the number of households affected by the cap rose from 772,000 to 862,000, with an average loss of €555 per household. The measure applied to 2012 income; the cap was lowered again to €1,500 by the 2014 Finance Act.
