TV licence fee collected with the residence tax
Article 41 of the 2005 Finance Act rewrites Articles 1605 to 1605 quinquies of the General Tax Code. From 1 January 2005, the TV licence fee is due from persons liable for residence tax who own a television on 1 January, and it is paid together with the residence tax. It is €116 in mainland France and €74 in the overseas departments, with a single fee per household whatever the number of sets and homes. Exemptions are aligned on those of the residence tax, with acquired rights kept for persons exempt in 2004. Businesses declare it with VAT, per set, with a 30% allowance from the third to the thirtieth viewing point and 35% beyond. The fee was abolished in 2022.
