Income tax reduction for interest on loans to take over an SME: ceilings doubled
Article 67 of the economic modernisation act amends the income tax reduction granted for interest on loans taken out to acquire a small or medium-sized enterprise (Article 199 terdecies-0 B of the General Tax Code). The annual interest ceilings rise from €10,000 to €20,000 for a single person and from €20,000 to €40,000 for a couple. The 25% threshold of voting and profit rights can be reached by counting the holdings of the spouse, relatives or other employee buyers. The new rules apply to loans taken out from 28 April 2008, and the reduction is limited to loans taken out until 31 December 2011.
