Member State contribution to the EU budget based on non-recycled plastic packaging waste

Council Decision (EU, Euratom) 2020/2053 of 14 December 2020 on own resources creates, from 1 January 2021, a contribution by each Member State to the EU budget calculated by applying a call rate of €0.80 per kilogram to the weight of non-recycled plastic packaging waste. France authorised its approval by Law No. 2021-127 of 8 February 2021; the decision entered into force on 1 June 2021 with effect from 1 January 2021.

Measure impact

The contribution is paid by the State from its budget, through the levy on revenue for the European Union; according to the Government's answer of 25 January 2022 it is not passed on to businesses, households or local authorities. It reduces the contribution based on gross national income by the same amount.
