Abolition of the €35 legal aid contribution required to bring proceedings
Article 128 of the 2014 Finance Act repealed, from 1 January 2014, Article 1635 bis Q of the General Tax Code, which required payment of a €35 legal aid contribution (the €35 'stamp') to bring proceedings before most civil, commercial, labour, social, rural and administrative courts. Proceedings brought up to 31 December 2013 remain subject to the contribution. The same article also changed the remuneration rules for lawyers working under legal aid.

Litigants bringing proceedings from 1 January 2014: €35 less to pay. The revenue from the contribution, estimated at €60m a year and allocated to legal aid funding, is replaced by State budget appropriations.
