Abolition of seal duties
Article 77 of the 2001 Amending Finance Act abolishes seal duties and repeals Article 1019 of the General Tax Code, which made the tax office responsible for collecting them, from 1 January 2002. Seal duties on naturalisation, reinstatement and release from French allegiance had already been abolished in 2000; those still due were for a change or addition of name (FRF 1,000), a dispensation for marriage between relatives (FRF 500) or the investiture of a title of nobility (FRF 2,000).
No official estimate found for this measure.
Measure impact
People applying for a change of name, a dispensation for marriage between relatives or the investiture of a title no longer pay these duties. The Senate puts the annual yield abolished at FRF 300,000.
