Mandatory property tax surcharge on building land in tight housing markets abolished
The 2017 Amending Finance Act abolishes, from 2018 tax assessments, the mandatory increase in the rental value of building land in certain tight housing markets used to calculate the tax on undeveloped land (set at €3/m², adjustable from €1 to €5/m²). Only the optional surcharge that each municipality may adopt by resolution remains; municipalities previously subject to the mandatory surcharge could decide until 15 February 2018 to apply it as early as 2018.
