End of reduced VAT on gas boilers
Reduced VAT on the purchase and installation of gas boilers was abolished on 1 March 2025. The rate rises from 5.5% to 20% to encourage the adoption of greener heating systems
Measure originators
A positive amount is revenue or savings for public finances; a negative amount is a cost or lost revenue.
Measure impact
Stepped increase: 5.5% → 10% on 1 January 2025, then 10% → 20% on 1 March 2025. Maintenance and repair of very high energy performance (THPE) boilers keep the reduced 5.5% VAT rate.
