Fishing tax 2007: €8.80 rate for recreational anglers
Decree No. 2006-1765 rewrites Article D. 436-1 of the Environment Code and sets the fishing tax (taxe piscicole) rates for 2007. A single rate of €8.80 applies to all categories of recreational anglers (line, casting, first-category waters, nets and gear) and to the companions of professional fishers; professional fishers pay €99. The holiday card is taxed at €3.80, the day card at €1, and under-16s are exempt (€0). Additional taxes apply to migratory salmonids (€20 recreational, €30 professional) and glass eels (€20 recreational, €230 professional). Decree No. 2007-528 of 5 April 2007 extends the holiday card to 31 December and the day card to first-category waters. By comparison, Decree 2005-1687 of 26 December 2005 set the 2006 tax at €17.50 (reduced) or €29.50 (full) for amateur anglers, €10 for under-16s and €147 for professional fishers.

Measure impact
Recreational anglers who are members of an approved association pay a single €8.80 tax whatever their fishing method, and under-16s are exempt. The 2006 schedule was not consulted, so the change from the previous year is not quantified here. The fishing tax is replaced from 2008 by the aquatic environment protection charge created by the Water Act of 30 December 2006.
