5.5% VAT on chocolate sweets
Article 32 of the 2006 Finance Act amends Article 278 bis of the General Tax Code to apply the reduced VAT rate of 5.5% to chocolate sweets, previously subject to the standard rate of 19.6%. The 'household chocolate' category, removed by EU rules on cocoa products, is replaced by chocolate sweets. The article stems from an amendment by MP Louis Giscard d'Estaing, adopted with the Government's support.
